I keep seeing posts lately — “my old voice teacher taught me wrong.” I understand that feeling. But I want you to pause for a moment. Then why haven’t you surpassed those “old school” singers yet? The singers who were truly great back then took 1 piece of advice and found 2 to 10 insights on their own. They used what their teacher gave them as a starting point — and did the rest themselves. Today, information and voice trainers exist in abundance around the world.
The knowledge built up over generations has become systems and methods, and the pyramid of skill levels has shifted into a diamond shape. The average has genuinely risen. But the truly exceptional singers? Still just a handful. Same as always. I believe that comes down to one thing: the talent to think, experiment, and keep going. The energy spent envying others — what if you put that into figuring things out yourself? Wouldn’t that be so much more interesting?
